The Kawakawa project includes extension and refurbishment works to improve operational functionality and increase capacity within the existing Police facility. The project will provide additional workspace and supporting infrastructure to enable the station to better accommodate current and future staffing requirements. The Whangārei project involves refurbishment works within the existing Walton Plaza Police Hub tenancy, including improvements to staff amenities and operational support spaces. The project will deliver upgraded bathroom, locker and changing facilities to better support frontline staff and improve the functionality of the existing workplace environment. Whilst separate Minor Works Contracts will be executed for each project, NZ Police intends to appoint a single Main Contractor to deliver both projects. This approach is intended to provide programme efficiencies, consistent delivery outcomes, simplified coordination and improved management of resources across the Northland region. Construction is currently anticipated to commence in November 2026, with both projects targeted for completion prior to February 2027.
